The Dynon data decoder formats data exported by Dynon Skyview version 3.2 software. To obtain the data you will need to set up a link from the Skyview serial tx to your computer rx. Set up the Dynon serial port according to the 3.2 install manual. Set the serial out for ADAHRS / EMS. On your computer open Hyperterm and set up a serial connection to your serial port or usb to serial converter. Some computers do not have Hyperterm installed. If not, Google and download. If you don't know how to do that, please don't contact me, I don't have time to train you. With Hyperterm open and set up for your serial connection click transfer > capture text. turn on your skyview and the screen will start scrolling a whole bunch of lines of data. When you want to quit click the hang up button.
This is version 1 of this software and will be updated to include more features. At the moment it has a fixed format and may not be applicable to every installation. The text file saved will contain all of the fields exported by the adahrs and ems. It will be a plain text file with a .txt extension. Dynon Decoder takes this info and converts it into a formatted comma separated variable (CSV) file readable by excel. The time is recorded as hours and thousands of an hour. i.e. 13.345 It filters records that are greater than .001 hrs than the previous record. It also formats the following adahrs data: Oat, Ktas, baro setting, Density altitude. It formats the following ems data: oil pres, oil temp, rpm, man pres, fuel flow, hobbs, egt1,2,3 and 4, cht 1,2,3 and 4. This is based on standard Dynon lycoming setup and wiring. future versions may include free form formatting to accomodate other setups. Contact me with your comments and suggestions. If there is enough interest, I'll spend some time on it. down load Dynon Decoder here This is a simple .exe file without an installation program. You should down load and save it to the location of choice such as your desktop and run it from there.
